Huddersfield's John Smith’s Stadium big Rugby League World Cup date is proving to be one of the biggest pre-tournament sellers – with sales having topped 22,000.

The home of the Giants hosts the World Cup Group A game between England and Ireland on Saturday, November 2 (2.30) and, while the organisers say seats are still available, they have also stated that those tickets could go quickly – with a capacity crowd of over 24,000 for the game.

“Tickets are still available for the game, but it is true that they are in short supply,” said Rugby Football League communications manager John Ledger.

“There has been huge interest in this fixture and from the start it has proved to be one of the biggest draws for fans.

“In terms of availability of seats, it has been a very fast seller and certainly one of our biggest.

“While it is not a sell-out, the advice from the organisers would be if you want to see this game then move quickly.”

All four sides of the ground are open for the game and for Huddersfield fans their interest will centre on England’s Leroy Cudjoe and Ireland’s Scott Grix, though second rower Brett Ferres could yet be included in the hosts’ squad having been out to their South African training camp.

Coach Steve McNamara and his England side return from Potchefstroom tomorrow and begin gearing up for their opening game – also the first of the tournament – against Australia at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday, October 26 (2.30), with a warm-up game against Italy at Salford City Stadium this coming Saturday.
