Aaron Murphy is a great believer in the old adage ‘it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish’.

And the Giants utility back has the evidence to back that up.

While some fans have voiced serious concerns over the start Huddersfield have made to the Super League XXI season, the 27-year-old Murphy is remaining relatively relaxed about the current situation.

Obviously, like everyone else, he’s far from happy the Giants have lost their opening four 2016 top-flight fixtures. In fact, it’s hit him hard.

But with players slowly starting to trickle back and bolster his club’s injury-hit squad, Murphy knows the tide will start to turn.

“We lost our opening three games last season and ended up finishing in the top four,” said the former Leeds Academy winger, who added: “And that was when we had a fully-fit squad.

“So there’s no real concern at this stage on my part, or for anyone else at the club for that matter.

“Clearly, no-one’s happy to have played four and lost four – we all hate losing – but now is definitely not the time to start panicking, because that would pile unnecessary pressure on us.

“In fact, we are feeling pretty positive about what’s ahead for us.

“We fixed up a lot of things at Leeds last week and felt we deserved to get something out of that contest.

“The key is to make sure we keep building on that, and because we’re starting to get some bodies back we know that first win is just around the corner.

“To be honest, there’s no reason whatsoever why that won’t come at home to Hull KR tomorrow. We’re all confident we can do it.”

The under-rated Murphy is guaranteed a start against the Robins this weekend, although what role that will be has yet to be confirmed.

In the opening four rounds, the Huddersfield No5 has impressed at full-back, but with the vastly-experienced Jordan Tansey having been brought in on a month’s loan from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, it could be all change.

With Tansey a recognised full-back, it would be no great surprise if the 29-year-old took over that role and Murphy returned to his more natural wing spot – not that the man himself would complain.

“I’ve enjoyed the full-back role,” he added.

“And if I carry on doing that I’d be more than happy.

“At the end of the day, it’s a case of doing what’s best for the team. That’s the most important thing.”
