HUDDERSFIELD'S Senior Academy side are set to face their stiffest test of the season when they take on Leeds Rhinos at Headingley tonight (7.30).
Leeds are riding high at the top of the table with an outstanding record of 14 wins and two draws from their 16 games to lead by two points from Bradford Bulls.
But coach Lee St Hilaire's Giants are not that far behind in fifth spot and put up a creditable performance against the Rhinos earlier in the season before going down 28-12 at Fartown.
Huddersfield, of course, have improved out of all recognition since suffering that defeat - one of six this season - and go into tonight's clash boasting a far stronger side.
And much will depend on the performances of Huddersfield's first-team squad men on the big Headingley stage.
Those include Ben Cooper in the centres and Jonathan Grayshon and Eorl Crabtree in the pack.
There is, however, no place for former Leeds Academy player Matthew Whittaker, who remains in Tony Smith's senior squad after being 18th man in Sunday's exciting win against Wigan.
But there could be a Giants return to action for another ex-Rhinos Academy man in Marvin Cox, who could be on the bench.
"This really will be a big test of how much the boys have improved over the last few months," said Giants football manager Stuart Sheard.
"Lee is doing a fantastic job as coach and his side have already pulled off some notable scalps.
"It would be good to add Leeds Rhinos to that list."
