A YOUNG Giants Under 21 side beat Senior Academy Championship leaders Bradford 34-26 to keep their play-off hopes intact.
Huddersfield had nine Under 18s on duty at Fartown last night, which added to their achievement of beating a side topping the table for the second time in three weeks (Leeds were earlier victims).
Bradford took an early lead with a Ben Western penalty, but the Giants responded with tries by Marcus George, who raced in from 50 metres out, and Ben Feehan, both converted by Tony Williams, to be 12-2 ahead after nine minutes.
A 21st-minute Williams penalty stretched the lead, but Vinny Myler crossed from close range for the Bulls five minutes later and Western goaled.
Huddersfield hit back from the kick-off, when Chris Plume stripped the ball in a one-on-one and set up Kevin Bower, who left Williams with a straightforward goal.
Karl Pryce, brother of Bulls star Leon, crossed for a converted try on 33 minutes, and after 46, Bradford were level when Nicky Saxton went over and Western goaled.
Williams edged the Giants back in front with a 54th-minute penalty, and then heavy pressure brought converted tries for Kris Lythes, who was set up by Phil Joseph, and Danny Samuel, from a clever chip and chase.
Bradford responded with a late Mark Bolton try and Western goal, but the Giants were comfortable winners.
The Giants Junior Academy face Warrington at Fartown tomorrow (2.30).
