ALBERT TORRENS' season is over!

Huddersfield Giants' worst fears have been confirmed with the news the strike centre suffered a major cruciate ligament tear in his left knee during Sunday's 36-22 triumph at Castleford.

The 29-year-old Australian underwent surgery late yesterday to repair some of the collateral damage.

But he must wait another month before an operation to repair the damaged ligament can take place.

The news is a devastating blow for Torrens, who made a massive impact in the opening seven Super League rounds.

And Giants head coach Jon Sharp admits it's a massive loss.

"It couldn't have been any worse for Alby," said Sharp.

"He's suffered a really bad tear and that's it for the season.
