HUDDERSFIELD Giants' Senior Academy suffered a third successive grading defeat as they went down 42-18 to Wigan at Lockwood Park last night.
It means the club's Under 21s side have missed out on a place in this season's Academy Championship.
They will instead take their place in the First Division when they can expect to rattle up some cricket scores against a number of Academy teams from National League clubs.
By the time that competition gets under way, this Giants squad will be even stronger.
A glut of first-team injuries meant coach Lee St Hilaire was unable to call on a number of his top young players, who were drafted into senior action.
But the signs suggest the Super League squad is getting healthier and St Hilaire will have more full-time men at his disposal - and that could be worrying for the National League Academy part-timers!
Even though the Giants were depleted last night, there were still times when they looked sharper than Wigan, and they scored the tries to prove it.
Richard Knight, Marcus George, Ben Feehan and the excellent Kris Lythe all scored, while Iain Morrison and Jonathan Grayshon appear to be getting back to full fitness.
But Wigan deserved the win, grabbing tries from Bob Beswick, Danny Speakman, Dave Allen, Paul Ballard, Bryn Hargreaves, James Coyle and Simon Bissell, and goals from Andrew Ballard.
