BRIAN BLACKER is back at the Giants!

The former Huddersfield centre, who was caretaker coach of the club in the mid-1990s, has been appointed manager to the Giants' Senior Academy.

He will work alongside Andy Procter, who was last season's Junior Academy coach and replaces Paul Moses.

The Keighley-based former Cougars half-back has decided to quit the role to work closer to home.

Procter's replacement as Under 18s coach is assistant Wayne Stead, with Wayne Daley taking on the manager's duties.

The new Junior Academy team will be able to call on the advice of Blacker and Procter when necessary, with Giants football manager Stuart Sheard believing the new structure could be a recipe for success.

"We believe this set-up will make our Academy structure much stronger," said Sheard.

"We're disappointed to be losing Paul Moses, because he did a good job under difficult circumstances.

"But it seems a very natural step to let Andy Procter take over, particularly as he helps with the first team as well.

"And I'm also sure Andy will benefit greatly from having someone as experienced as Brian to work with him.

"Brian has coached at first-team level with the club and spent a number of seasons in charge of the Academy.

"He knows the game inside out and has a lot of contacts throughout the sport.

"He's a quality addition, and will do a great job."
