IN-FORM Brett Ferres has heaped praise on Huddersfield Giants’ back-row partner Jason Chan.

Huddersfield’s joint vice-captain sealed his side’s thrilling 22-10 weekend win over Wigan with a last-second interception try.

It capped another top display from Ferres, who is back in the England frame after an excellent start to the season as the Giants stormed to the top of the Super League XVIII table.

But while Ferres is delighted to be taking the plaudits, he feels fellow pack man Chan deserves more credit.

“It’s always good to be recognised for your efforts,” said Ferres, who will be hoping to make it four wins from four starts at Wakefield on Sunday.

“But the key to the excellent start we’ve made is the way everyone has been playing, it’s not just down to one or two individuals.

“My performances have obviously earned me recognition off England coach Steve McNamara, but I think the efforts of Jason Chan also need to be recognised. He’s doing really well.

“Because we play same position, we’ve always enjoyed a fair bit of banter. That happened last year when we were having a laugh about the fact he was playing less and less minutes.

“As a result, he might have thought his chances this season may have been limited.

“But, instead, it’s been the opposite. He’s been playing the full 80 minutes and playing fantastically well.

“I really do rate him very highly, and it’s great to see his hard work paying off. He’s played a massive part in our successful start to the season, and I’d like to think we’re helping to bring the best out of each other.”
