Former Huddersfield player and coach Brian Blacker is back at the club as the new commercial executive working.

He will work alongside Giants commercial manager Paul Cribb as part of an exciting new backroom team at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Blacker first signed for Huddersfield at the age of 19 with Bob Valentine persuading him to join, and he later went on to play for Barrow and then Hull FC before returning to Fartown to play under Alex Murphy.

He retired as a player in 1994 at the age of 30, spending the next five years away from the sport before returning under Jon Sharp’s reign where he was given the opportunity to be involved with the youth setup, a role that Blacker still commits to today

And Cribb believes his knowledge and presence will make him a prize asset.

“Brian brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role of commercial executive after being involved with the Giants as both a player and a volunteer and is well known within Rugby League and the Kirklees area,” he said.

“Brian will perform an integral role within the commercial department as the Huddersfield Giants look to progress both on and off the field.”

Added Blacker: “It’s nice to be back at the club and to be back in an environment where it’s nice to come to work.

“I’ve been involved with the Giants for many years and to be able to help promote the club in the local area is a big bonus to me.

“I’m very excited about the future. The town of Huddersfield has struggled with the rugby side for numbers of years and we have lost a few generations of supporters but the tide is turning now.

“The team on the field have started to improve which is helping the business develop and that, in turn, also helps us to develop the team off the field commercially.”
