Catalans Dragons are ready to test the meanest defence in Super League.

That’s the word from the French camp ahead of the Magic Weekend meeting with Huddersfield Giants at Newcastle on Sunday.

With 15 games gone, the fourth-placed Giants have given away just 214 points, with second-placed St Helens boasting the next lowest total of 263, Hull KR 272 and Wigan Warriors 278.

Catalans, in sixth, come to the North-East with creative halves Todd Carney and Scott Dureau back in tandem and chasing a fourth straight win in all competitions,

Prop Jeff Lima must sit out the match through suspension, but is backing his teammates to avenge their 38-14 defeat in Huddersfield last month.

“It’s great to have Todd and Scotty back after injuries, and they can definitely pave the way for us,” said the Samoan.

“We always enjoy playing Huddersfield. They are one of the best sides in the competition, so it’s a big game for us.

“Their defence has been awesome so far this season, so it’s a big challenge for us to get through them.

“Teams who defend well usually win games, so we have to attack them well, and the half-backs obviously have a big part to play in that.”

Lima says Catalans, who have Ian Henderson free to play, are well aware of their struggle to pick up points away from home.

“It’s happened quite a lot over the years. It’s something we have spoken about and it’s something we have to do something about,” he added.

“I don’t know if it’s a mental thing, but we are determined to improve our record away from France, so let’s start now. We know that by beating Huddersfield, we’ll go level on (17) points with them, so that’s a real incentive.

“Our form has been good of late and we’re off the back of a very good win against Wigan, so why shouldn’t we get the win?”
