A GIANT flag that will be unveiled on the Wembley pitch ahead of August’s Carnegie Challenge Cup final at Wembley will be at the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday.

It will also visit two other stadiums this weekend to give fans the chance to sign it and state what rugby league’s most historic cup competition means to them.

As part of this year’s marketing campaign for the competition, which focuses on the emotions people feel towards the 113-year-old competition, the giant flag measuring 20m x 13m will be touring grounds up and down the country over the next five months.

Split into eight sections, parts of the flag will this weekend be at the Hull v Leeds clash at the KC Stadium and then unveiled ahead of the Giants v Hull KR fourth-round tie.

It will then travel the short distance to Halifax’s Shay stadium for Siddal’s game against Batley.

Those who sign the flag can then look forward to seeing all eight pieces assembled for the first time on the hallowed turf at Wembley for the 2010 Carnegie Challenge Cup final on August 28.

Explained RFL marketing manager Phil Williams: “This year’s campaign is all about people of all age ranges and from all walks of life sharing emotions and experiences they have with this famous competition.

“Rather than telling us what it was like on their first visit Wembley or how they felt when their team won the cup for the first time, we’d like them to write down on the flag exactly what this competitions means to them.”
