FRUSTRATED Huddersfield Giants ace Martin Aspinwall has asked to return early to pre-season training.

The 25-year-old winger was told he could stay away until the new year after spending the autumn with Great Britain in Australia.

Although he was training on a daily basis with the Lions, he failed to feature in any of his country's four Tri-Nation's clashes against Australia and New Zealand.

That has left the former Wigan winger feeling frustrated.

And he sees no better way of getting it out of his system than by getting back to pre-season training with the Giants as quickly as possible.

"If I had been given my chance in Australia, I may have felt a little bit different," said Aspinwall.

"But the fact I never got the chance to show everyone what I could do left me feeling very frustrated.

"Because of my Great Britain commitments, I was told I didn't need to report back to the Giants until January 2.

"But with the way I'm feeling, I really need to get back with the rest of the boys and get cracking again.

"I'll take it easy for the rest of this week, but I've every intention of starting with the Giants next Monday. I'm sure the coaching staff won't mind!"

Aspinwall made a quick early impression for the Lions as he scored a try in Great Britain's warm-up match against Newcastle Knights.

But that wasn't enough to convince Lions chief Brian Noble that he should earn a full cap in the Tri-Nations.

And the Huddersfield flier now wants to prove a point in Super League XII.

"It quickly became clear to me that I wasn't going to get a game in the Tri-Nations," he added.

"It was obviously a tremendous honour to tour with your country, but I can assure you it's not much fun when you're always stuck on the sidelines.

"But I'm not going to moan about it. All it's done is made me want to work even harder, so I can play for Great Britain against New Zealand next year.

"That's one of the reasons why I want to get back training with the Giants as quickly as possible.

"I want next season to be even better."
