BRANDON COSTIN will start Super League IX as the Giants' frontline goalkicker.

The inspirational Australian takes over from Steve McNamara and Jamie Bloem, who kicked the majority of goals last season but have since left the club.

Costin did kick infrequently during the last campaign, and was at times off target.

But Giants coach Jon Sharp is confident the 29-year-old won't let him down in 2004.

"Brandon is an established goalkicker," said Sharp.

"Don't forget, it was Brandon's conversion under incredible pressure against London two years ago that kick-started our revival in Super League VI.

"That season he was a regular kicker and, therefore, spent a fair amount of time working on it.

"Last year, he was down the goalkicking pecking order and didn't concentrate on it as much. It'll be different this time.

"I'll work with him in training to improve his undoubted skill, just like I did with Sean Long and Paul Sculthorpe at St Helens.

"I've also got options as back-up goalkickers, although I certainly won't select players for Super League just because they've got an accurate boot."
