DETERMINED Giants star Brandon Costin has pledged to do his `absolute utmost' to lead his side in their bid for victory in tomorrow's vital Super League clash against Widnes at the McAlpine (5.30).

The inspirational Australian suffered a shoulder injury during last week's 30-16 defeat at Bradford Bulls.

That's cast doubt over Costin's chances of setting a new Super League record of scoring a try in 10 successive games.

But the 29-year-old has revealed his major motive for wanting to play is to help the Giants secure a victory which would keep his club's play-off hopes alive.

"I've got about a 50-50 chance of playing at this stage," he admitted.

"But I can assure everyone that I'll be doing my absolute utmost to play.

"We're struggling on the injury front right now and I'm desperate to play because this is such a vital game in our play-off bid.

"I've already got my name in the Super League record books by equalling the record at Bradford last week, so that's of secondary importance.

"It's the importance of the match to the Giants that's the key.

"A decision on whether I play will be taken as late as possible, and the only reason I won't be there tomorrow is if there's a real chance I could risk longer-term damage by playing."
