The arrival of Craig Huby has helped soften the blow of the sudden departure of fellow prop Antonio Kaufusi.

That’s the view of the Giants as head coach Paul Anderson starts to assess his front-row options for the next Super League season.

Although Kaufusi’s decision to quit Huddersfield halfway through his two-year contract appears to have come out of the blue, the Giants are still far from lacking firepower up front.

Former Castleford favourite Huby won’t be guaranteed a starting spot in 2015, with Eorl Crabtree, Craig Kopczak, Anthony Mullally and Josh Johnson all eager to stake a major prop claim. On top of that, the likes of explosive back-rowers Ukuma Ta’ai and Larne Patrick have the size and strength to push up if required.

As a result, Anderson is looking forward to what the future holds rather than dwelling on Kaufusi’s departure.

“We’ve still got massive options in the front row,” said Anderson.

“And I’m already looking forward to working with one of the current stand-out props in the competition in Craig Huby.

Craig’s bag of tricks is pretty big. He’s got a lot of skill in him, as well as a lot of toughness in regards to how he plays the game.

“He’ll provide us with plenty of options, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how well he fits in to our squad.

“With the way we intend to work over the next few months, I know we’ll be strong up front.”
