In-form forward Craig Kopczak feels the Giants are heading to St Helens at just the right time.

Huddersfield had relatively little trouble maintaining their top-four Super League challenge with the 32-14 home win over Hull KR.

It was a win which moved the Giants to within a point of third-placed Wigan and two behind second-placed Saints ahead of Friday’s trip to Langtree Park.

And with Huddersfield boasting the best current record in the top flight with just one defeat in their last 10 Super League clashes, Kopczak is confident his side can keep on building against Saints – especially if they take all the positives from their success over Rovers.

“This was a game we knew we needed to win if we wanted to stay in that top four,” said Kopczak, who knew that spot would have been lost if they’d failed and fifth-placed Castleford had beaten Widnes (which they did 34-20).

“And we never really felt we weren’t going to do it.

“Although Hull KR gave it their best shot, we always felt we’d have enough, which is probably down to the confidence there is throughout the side at the moment.

“I know that’s definitely the case in the pack.

“I think the forwards are thriving off each other, and that’s playing a massive part in why we’re doing so well.

“I’m personally feeling pretty happy with the form I’m showing and I’m obviously hoping I can keep on improving between now and the end of the season. You always know you can do better.

“But with the run of form we’re in at the moment, we’re all looking forward to going to Saints on Friday night.

“While we’ve just recorded some good results, Saints will be smarting after their heavy defeat at Leeds the other night, so we’ve got to make sure we do what we can to add to what Leeds did to them at Headingley.”

“With the way we’re feeling right now, we know we can.”

The fixture against Hull KR will be remembered as one which was played in some of the heaviest rain ever seen in Huddersfield during an astonishing second-half thunder and lightnining downpour – with Kopczak relieved to have emerged unscathed!

“It was incredible, a classic case of a tale of two halves,” added the former Bradford Bulls front-rower.

“In the first half the sun was shining and in the second the heavens just opened.

“It seemed that in an instant, the skies became black and the rain came down heavier than I can ever remember.

“Fortunately, I thought we handled the change in conditions very well.

“It meant our original gameplan went out of the window, but that didn’t stop us getting the win at all.”
