Danny Brough is confident a home clash against leaders Leeds Rhinos will finally bring the best out of Huddersfield Giants.

Although the Giants are fourth in the Super League XX table with six wins from their opening 12 top-flight fixtures, Brough acknowledges his side has failed to fire on all cylinders.

But the Huddersfield skipper is looking at tonight’s John Smith’s Stadium derby duel (8.00) as the perfect opportunity for the hosts to take their game to the next level and make it a hat-trick of triumphs after the convincing wins over Catalans Dragons and Hull FC.

“These are the type of games that can bring the best out of you,” said the 32-year-old goalkicking half-back, who was again instrumental in last Friday’s 24-4 triumph at the KC Stadium.

“And it’s about time we started doing just that.

“Everyone knows how good our defence has been, but we still need to perform a lot better than we have been doing.

“If we don’t start cutting out the errors – we’ve been working on getting back to the basics to try and sort that out – we’ll continue to make life really difficult for ourselves.

“You might be able to get away with it on the odd occasion, but you certainly won’t against a side like Leeds, who have always been so good at taking full advantage of their opponents’ errors.

“We know they’ll provide us with a massive challenge, because they’ve got a history of responding positively to defeats (Leeds were beaten 29-10 at home to Warrington last Friday), so we’re looking at this as the game to finally bring the best out of us.

“There’s no reason why it shouldn’t.”
