Former Huddersfied Giants and Salford coach Phil Veivers believes the individual duel between Danny Brough and Rangi Chase could determine the outcome of Friday’s Super League XX clash between his old clubs at the John Smith’s Stadium.

While Brough masterminded Huddersfield’s stunning 29-10 win at Warrington Wolves last Friday, fellow stand-off Chase was doing a similar job on Widnes Vikings 24 hours earlier to inspire the Red Devils to a 36-8 home triumph.

Their head-to-head battle should be worth the admission money alone, with Chase commanding the England No6 spot that many believe Brough should own.

That in itself gives this latest encounter extra spice, with current Workington Town boss Veivers knowing the clash could help bring the brilliant best out of each other.

“Brough has the best kicking game in the competition and Rangi has all the flair and the flash,” said Veivers.

“I rate them both very highly for very different reasons.

“They are natural footballers. Brough is a really tough competitor.

“Rangi is playing well and can always create openings, providing those alongside him are on the same page.

“They are two of the best around and they are in good form.

“It should be a good contest.”

Salford head for Huddersfield on Good Friday with their confidence rising.

They go into the holiday weekend on the back of their seven-try slaying of Widnes and back up their Huddersfield trip with a home game against Wigan on Easter Monday and away visit to Leeds on the Friday.

But Devils chief Iestyn Harris knows his players are ready for the huge tests ahead.

“We have a lot of work to do and some tough challenges round the corner,” said Harris, whose side is without suspended half-back Theo Fages.

“What you have to try and do over the Easter games is pick up some results.

“It is going to be a challenge for us, but we’re up for it.

“It will certainly show us where we are and hopefully we can improve on what we did in beating Widnes.

“We saw a number of pleasing performances in this one. We have all seen how the league has been. Everyone can beat everyone.”
