DELIGHTED coach Brian McClennan believes Leeds’ defensive effort was the key to his side’s victory over the Giants.
Although Huddersfield spent a fair amount of time pressing on their opponents’ tryline, particularly in the opening period, they struggled to find a way through.
And the former New Zealand Test coach felt that was absolutely crucial to his side securing the win.
“Huddersfield asked a lot of questions of us defensively, but I thought we held them up very well,” he said. “I’m sure they (the Giants) will have been upset that they coughed up a lot of ball in our 20.
“But there were reasons for that, which was pleasing.
“I also thought we scored some nice tries.
“Huddersfield are a hard team to attack against, so I’m pleased to win by the margin we did.
“They’ll strangle a lot of sides in Super League this season, so this was a very good game to win.”
