STUART DONLAN is desperate to hold on to his Super League spot.

The 27-year-old made his 2006 senior Giants bow in Sunday's 64-14 destruction of Harlequins, and immediately called for a place in the side for this weekend's trip to Castleford Tigers.

Donlan knows that's far from nailed on, with Martin Aspinwall (knee) and Michael De Vere (back) looking to return after missing the big win over the Londoners.

But the Lancashire State of Origin star is hoping he did enough in last week's match to persuade coach Jon Sharp to give him another chance.

"I felt I went well against Quins, and I hope Jon felt the same," said Donlan (left).

"The start of the season has been really frustrating and, to be honest, I don't want to go through it all again.

"For the first five weeks, I was training and hoping I was preparing for a Super League start, and then my hopes were dashed when I wasn't selected.

"I know it's great for the team that we've got such strong competition for places, because it helps bring the best out of you.

"But it's a nightmare when you're the one that misses out. I just hope it's not going to be me again."

The final choice is obviously down to Sharp, who has named the same 20-man squad for a second successive week.

Also included is back-row forward Paul Smith, who was absent a week ago after suffering a stomach bug.

The Galpharm chief admits he has some tough decisions to make.

"Stuart took his chance extremely well, and I was delighted for him," said Sharp.

"But so many others went well, too. I know there are going to be some disappointed players this weekend."
