GIANTS coach Jon Sharp has hailed the role played by the fans in helping lift the spirits of his players in the wake of Sunday's Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to St Helens.

Huddersfield face a tough trip back to the Halliwell-Jones Stadium this Sunday to face Warrington Wolves in Super League (3.00), with memories of the 46-6 Cup defeat still fresh in their minds.

But Sharp is confident his players will respond positively to the major setback, and believes the supporters have played a vital role in making that possible.

"The fans were superb during the game, and I know their support gave the boys a real buzz," said Sharp.

"Understandably, the mood among them was downbeat travelling back to Huddersfield on Sunday night.

"But the reception from the fans when we got to the Chicago Rock for the after-match party was unbelievable.

"The place was packed, and as soon as we walked in we received a standing ovation.

"It's something the boys were talking about all yesterday at training, and it helped us provide the lift we really needed.

"For that I would like to thank everyone, it's helped make my job a great deal easier.

"The way the boys have stuck together after Sunday has blown me away.

"I couldn't have been more pleased with the way they reacted to this defeat.

"Obviously, the acid test will come at Warrington at the weekend.

"But I'm sure that, mentally, the team will be ready to play."

Sharp does, however, have several injury worries ahead of Sunday's return trip.

Darren Turner suffered a recurrence of his knee injury, while Marcus St Hilaire picked up a calf strain.

"We have picked up knocks, but hopefully by the weekend everyone will be in better shape," added Sharp.
