WHO do you believe should be the Giants’ Player of the Year?

Fans have until noon next Thursday (September 1) to vote on who should be named Huddersfield’s main Super League man for 2011, with everything being revealed at the Giants Awards Night on Monday, September 5.

With the Giants set to become Yorkshire’s highest-ranked club in 2011, there are clearly a number of contenders for this prestigious individual prize.

But the final choice will this year be down to the supporters, who look to have been handed a challenging task, with several notable candidates throughout the side.

This starts at full-back where Scott Grix has excelled in the role after having to fill the very sizeable gap left by the Giants’ former Super League Man of Steel Brett Hodgson.

The highly-consistent Grix has produced a number of eye-catching performances and scored some scintillating tries in the process.

Rising Giants star Jermaine McGillvary has arguably been the Giants’ most dangerous attacking weapon since taking the right-wing spot by storm – his defence has also improved tremendously, too – while fellow flier David Hodgson has also enjoyed another free-scoring season on the opposite flank.

Stand-off Kevin Brown has this season been charged with the task of taking over from the departed Hodgson as the Giants captain and has risen to the occasion by putting in reliable performances throughout the year.

And what about Brown’s half-back partner Danny Brough?

The goalkicking scrum half has been integral to all things good for the Giants and has crowned some top displays with some memorable tries. These obviously include stunning individual efforts in the Super League opener against Warrington in Cardiff and at home to St Helens.

In the forwards, props Eorl Crabtree, Keith Mason and Darrell Griffin have consistently made the hard yards, while England hooker Luke Robinson has put in numerous courageous performances, always giving everything for the claret and gold cause.

When the back-row pairing of David Fa’alogo and Luke O’Donnell have played together, they have always caused opposition defences massive headaches, while David Faiumu’s side-stepping and off-load ability have made him a firm fans’ favourite.

The likes of Huddersfield-born duo Leroy Cudjoe and Michael Lawrence have also been a model of consistency throughout 2011, although they are expected to gain recognition for combining for the Giants’ Try of the Year in the home win over St Helens.

That’s one of the awards that is to be decided ‘in-house’ by club officials, along with the most memorable achievement for 2011 when Huddersfield’s first win over Leeds at Headingley in 50 years is expected to be a front-runner.

However, it’s the loyal supporters who have been handed one of the biggest says and they can cast their vote by clicking on www.giantsrl.com/playerawards.
