FIT-AGAIN David Faiumu is desperate to make a Giants return next weekend and provide his side with some much-needed spark.

The former New Zealand Test ace has missed his side’s last three Super League XVI games with a rib injury.

It’s a problem that has prevented the utility forward from playing to his full potential for several months.

But the 28-year-old is confident he’ll be fit to face Castleford Tigers at the PROBIZ Stadium in the quarter-final of the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Sunday as the Giants look to erase the memory of their demoralising 36-0 defeat at struggling Bradford Bulls two days ago.

“As long as I come through training okay this week, I should be back out there,” said the former North Queensland Cowboys star.

“And I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’d been struggling with the injury for a couple of months and it was getting progressively worse and worse.

“So it came to the point a month ago where having a rest was the only real option. I don’t like missing games, but I really didn’t have a choice.

“I’m sure I’ll have benefited from the break, and hopefully I’ll come back fresh and I’ll try and add some spark to the side.

“It was tough watching the boys playing at Bradford the other day, I don’t like to see them going through something like that.

“I know I can’t turn things around on my own, but I’m really keen to get back out there and help us try to get back to some of our best form.

“All being well, that will start against Castleford in the Cup next weekend.”
