HUDDERSFIELD-BORN prop Darren Fleary will lead Leigh's bid to inflict an opening Super League X defeat on his hometown club this weekend!

Last season's Giants captain has been named the on-field leader of the newly-promoted Centurions.

And his opening task will be to help plot the downfall of the Giants in Leigh's first Super League fixture on Saturday (6.05).

The 34-year-old Fleary's new captaincy role was announced by Leigh boss Darren Abram, who has appointed Australian half-back Jason Ferris as his club captain for the season.

Both men will have key roles to play against the Giants, with Abram confident they will rise to the occasion.

"Working with Darren in the first couple of sessions, you knew that he was a leader and that is why I have named him as the captain," explained Abram.

"Saturday will be a great occasion for the club, and with Darren having seen everything in the game I know he will lead us by example.

"As well as an excellent leader, he's an outstanding competitor.

"And we're all well aware that in Huddersfield we face a big challenge in the forwards, and I know I can rely on Darren to take the lead.

"The Giants are a well-drilled, physical side and we know it's vital we match them up front."

Leigh are expecting a bumper crowd for the fixture and have announced there will be no pay-on-the-day facilities available for fans.

Therefore, any Huddersfield supporters wishing to make the trip must buy a ticket in advance from the Giants offices at the Galpharm Stadium by 11am on Thursday at the latest.

Prices are £15 adults and £8 concession for standing, and £17 and £10 in the seats.

Giants Junior Season ticket holders will NOT be admitted to the ground. Vouchers must be exchanged for a ticket from the Galpharm ticket office.

Also, with car parking at Leigh at an absolute premium, the Giants are advising fans to travel by coach if at all possible. Contact the club for details.
