Sam Rapira already feels his move to the Huddersfield Giants has given him a new lease of life.

The 28-year-old former New Zealand Warriors prop began full training with Huddersfield this week after signing a two-year Super League deal at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The 13-time Test capped Kiwi admits he was considering retiring at the end of last season before the Giants came in and made him an offer.

And within a week he’s 100% convinced he’s made the right move.

“Coming here has given me a real spring in my step,” said Rapira, who spent nine years in the Australian NRL with the Warriors and joins ex-Melbourne Storm utility forward Ryan Hinchcliffe as the Giants big signings for 2016.

Examiner RL writer Chris Roberts meets new Huddersfield Giants players Sam Rapira and Ryan Hinchcliffe.

“I had been seriously considering whether to call it a day in the professional game at the end of last season, but as soon as the Giants showed an interest in me that all changed.

“They’ve become one of the big success stories in Super League, and I really like the fact they’re keen on bringing through the local talent. I like a club who does that.

“And as soon as I walked into the place for the first time, it simply backed up what I was thinking.

“Coming here has given me a new lease of life, and I’m excited about working as hard as I possibly can and battling to earn a place in the side for next season. It’s a fantastic challenge.”
