The Huddersfield Giants have been linked with a move for Josh Jones.

Super League Grand Final winner Jones has cut short his stay in rugby union for family reasons and is looking for an immediate return to the 13-man code.

The 22-year-old centre left St Helens at the end of the 2015 season to join Premiership club Exeter but failed to break into their first team and is to head back to the north of England, along with partner Olivia who is expecting their first child in June.

And with Huddersfield looking to replace departed England second-rower Brett Ferres with a quality top-flight performer, Jones, who started 11 matches in the back row for St Helens in 2015, does appear an attractive proposition.

Exeter coach Rob Baxter said: “Obviously we’re disappointed to see Josh move on, especially when we were starting to see him come through and show some really good qualities.

“Throughout his time here he has really impressed us with his professionalism, his willingness to learn and the commitment he has shown playing for us and for Taunton.

“That said, Josh’s personal and family circumstances are the most important thing and although we’re sad to see him move on, we wish him every success for the future and in finding a new contract back in the Super League.”

Jones, who was a member of Saints’ 2014 Grand-Final-winning team, played for the Chiefs’ A League side and also on loan at Taunton Titans.

“I want to thank Rob, all the coaches, the players, staff and supporters for everything,” said Jones. “Rob gave me a great opportunity and a new challenge but due to family circumstances I have to cut it short early.”
