AARON MURPHY has come to the Giants to win silverware!

That’s the reason why the former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats utility back has chosen to join Huddersfield on a four-year contract ahead of a host of other Super League clubs.

The 22-year-old rising star has finally completed a move to the Giants, with Danny Kirmond and Andy Raleigh making the switch the other way.

Murphy has been on the Galpharm radar since Wakefield went into administration at the start of the season.

But after deciding to see out the rest of the campaign with his Wildcats teammates, the former Leeds Rhinos scholarship player has now agreed to make the move.

“I’ve come to the Giants because it’s always been my aim to join a top-four club that’s capable of challenging for silverware,” said the Churwell-based Murphy.

“And that’s why I felt coming to Huddersfield was my best move.

“I know they were keen on signing me earlier in the year.

“But I wanted to stick it out with my Wakefield teammates and help them for the season.

“I’ve done that, and now I feel 100% ready to move on.”

Murphy is the latest former Wakefield player to make the switch to the Giants.

He follows in the footsteps of Danny Brough, Dale Ferguson, Luke George (who signed for his hometown club last month) and Scott Grix, and Giants managing director Richard Thewlis is delighted he has another ex-Wildcat on board.

“It’s no secret we were one of several clubs keen to sign Aaron at the beginning of this season, and we’re delighted he has chosen to join the Giants,” said Thewlis.

“While this announcement looks like a player swap the reality is all three players had several clubs keen to sign them.

“But we would like to thank both Andy and Danny for their excellent service and wish them well .”
