HUDDERSFIELD Giants are looking to recruit youngsters between the ages of 13 and 19 to play a major role in developing a Huddersfield Giants Young Supporters Club.

The Super League club, in partnership with Kirklees Young People's Service, are developing a forum of young people who will be asked to develop a club specifically designed for the Giants' growing band of young fans.

The project has been made possible from funding from Connexions West Yorkshire, and has enabled the Giants to add to the Community Staff, with the appointment of Tahir Ashraf on a part-time basis.

Ashraf has worked for Kirklees Young People's Service for over two years, and gained experience as a youth worker.

Born and bred in Batley, he has developed a strong interest in rugby league, which has developed as a result of working with young people throughout the Kirklees area.

Ashraf's role will be to develop the young people's forum, which will be tasked with developing and re-launching the Young Supporters Club.

Twenty places are up for grabs on the forum, which will meet for the first time on January 11 at the Galpharm Stadium.

"This is an exceptionally exciting development for the club," said Giants community manager Lisa Jagger.

"Our community programme has now been running for almost 12 months and has contacted thousands of children and young people during that time.

"Developing a supporters club will give those youngsters who have developed an interest in the Giants a way of staying involved in the club".

Ashraf added: "The general ethos of the forum is to bring young people together from different areas within the authority to give them a chance to have their say in how the Young Supporters Club is developed.

"It is an exciting project to be working on and will be extremely rewarding for those young people that become involved."

Those who are interested can apply for a place on the forum by filling in a simple form and writing a letter stating why they think they deserve a place on the forum.

Applications should be sent to Huddersfield Giants community programme at the Galpharm Stadium, and need to be in by December 16.

All applicants will receive a complimentary ticket to the opening home game on Sunday, February 19 against Warrington Wolves.

Further information and application forms will be available from the Giants, Young People's Service, both club shops and many other venues.
