HUDDERSFIELD Giants have smashed another major target ahead of Saturday’s cut-price season-ticket offer deadline.

The Super League club are still hoping to smash through the 5,000 barrier by the weekend as fans have the chance to snap up their tickets for as little as £80.

The figure yesterday past 4,362 – which was the Giants’ average Super League attendance in 2004.

And club officials are delighted that another major target has been reached.

“We set ourselves a series of tough targets at the time of our cut-price season-ticket launch in August,” explained marketing manager James Brammer.

“These were based on ambitious percentage improvements on previous years, past attendances and some milestone figures.

“Obviously, when the deals were announced by our chairman, Ken Davy, no-one was aware of the credit crunch or the impending recession

“But the support from the Giants fans and the wider community has been nothing short of breathtaking.

“In addition to the overall figure, we have been keen to see how adult tickets have sold.

“They have exceeded all our expectations.

“And yesterday we achieved another milestone that just a few years ago would have seemed impossible.

“In 2004, our average attendance for Super League games was 4,362, which was made up of season-ticket holders, Giants walk-up and visiting fans.

“Yesterday, that figure was past on season tickets alone, and that emphasises the surge in Giants’ support over the last few years.

“We now hope we’ll very soon reach 4,500 ticket sales, which would be double the sales of this time last year.

“Then we would be in touching distance of the magic 5,000 mark, which would represent such a historic landmark for the club and its supporters.

“I really would urge those who are still to buy their ticket to get down to the stadium as quickly as possible.”
