HUDDERSFIELD Giants are already relishing defending their Carnegie Floodlit Nines title at Headingley.

The draw for the competition, which takes place at Leeds Rhinos’ ground on Wednesday, August 26, was held this week, with the Giants drawn against the winners of Qualifying Group B.

That will be either Army RL, the Cheltenham Nines winners or the Northern Rail Nines winners.

Hosts Leeds, Warrington, Hull, Hull KR and Wakefield are also competing, along with the a Qualifying Group A of Jamaica, Cumbria RL and Leeds Met Carnegie.

And Giants winger Jermaine McGillvary, who was one of the stars of last season’s competition, can’t wait.

“The Carnegie Nines was a real springboard to success for me,” he said.

“Before the tournament, I didn’t have a full-time contract at the Giants, but the Nines gave me the chance to show what I could do and I secured a long-term deal on the back of it.”
