Halifax RLFC coach Karl Harrison could run the rule over his youngsters in Sunday’s friendly clash with Batley Bulldogs at The Shay (3.00).

Having lost last weekend’s home run-out against Keighley Cougars due to a water-logged Shay pitch, Harrison will now hope to have a look at the players who did not feature in their 30-30 draw away at Super League outfit Castleford Tigers on Boxing Day.

It could mean that the likes of scrum half Brad Delaney (left), former Bradford Bulls pair Jarrod Ward and Josh Casey, former Salford trainee Jack Holmes, Sam Brooks, who was signed from Wigan Warriors, full-back Joe Martin and second rower Miles Fairbank, will get a run against John Kear’s Championship Grand Finalists.

The game also provides another chance for Danny Cowling to get his first Halifax appearance under his belt before the season starts.

Cowling, signed from Wakefield Wildcats, was suspended for the Castleford game.

Prop Ben Davies also missed the clash with the Tigers due to a knee injury and was expected to get his first run against Keighley.

Halifax wrap up their preparations for the new Kingstone Press Championship campaign with games against Featherstone Rovers away on Sunday, January 19, and then at The Shay against Leigh on Sunday, February 9.
