Huddersfield Giants head coach Paul Anderson is set to bring in cover for his injury-stricken team.

With key players already out ahead of Sunday’s 36-18 home Super League defeat at the hands of Widnes Vikings, the loss of scrum half Jamie Ellis with a dislocated collarbone makes it eight squad members now on the sidelines.

However, more pressing is the fact that Ellis was the only remaining fit recognised half-back going into the Vikings clash with skipper Danny Brough and Kyle Wood recuperating from injuries and Luke Robinson forced to retire with a hip problem.

While Brough and Wood are rated as having a chance of returning in a fortnight, the clash with fellow surprising Super League strugglers reigning champions Leeds Rhinos at Headingley on Friday looks set to arrive too soon for the pair.

“We are always looking for players, but as we lost another against Widnes it may well be that we have to do something,” said Anderson.

“The rest of the players we have are even younger than some of the ones we already have out there on the field.

“It is a tough one, but we have to re-evaluate and see where we are at.

“As far as the injuries go there is not a lot that we can expect to happen in five days.

“We are looking at Broughy, Eorl (Crabtree), Kyle and Joe (Wardle) but, to put it quite simply, if they are not ready to return then they are not ready.

“It is a short turnaround and I cannot see it making a whole lot of difference for us heading to Leeds.

“But the key for us is to stick together, be positive and address what happened in the Widnes game.”
