HUDDERSFIELD Giants' hopes of securing a place in this season's Senior Academy Championship suffered a major blow with a heavy 64-10 home defeat to Hull at Laund Hill.

After solid wins at Castleford Tigers and Featherstone Rovers, the Giants were hopeful of catching a strong Hull side off guard.

But the home side were never allowed to get into their stride, with the Giants falling apart in the second half.

After 30 minutes Huddersfield were just 10-8 adrift, thanks to a try from Bolu Fagborun and two Thomas Hemingway goals.

Unfortunately, the final few minutes of the half looked ominous as the visitors scored two converted tries to a solitary penalty from Hemingway to take a firm grip on the contest at 22-10.

But there was still nothing to suggest that the Giants would fall away as alarmingly as they did in the second period.

In an embarrassing 40 minutes, Hull ran in 42 unanswered points to leave their hosts shellshocked.

Leading the way was former Giants Academy winger Richie Barnett - a Super League regular with Hull last season - with two tries.

Also getting on the scoresheet for the visitors were Worrincy (2), Mack (2), Scott, Adebesi, Thackery, Washbrook and Benson, with Brough landing eight goals.
