Huddersfield Giants have a high-profile start to their 2015 Super League campaign, with three of their opening five top-flight fixtures to be screened live on Sky TV.

The away games at Wigan and Leeds – in rounds two and three – and the home clash with Castleford Tigers on March 12 will be played in front of the television cameras.

The return fixtures against Leeds and Castleford later in the season will also be televised to underline the growing status of the Giants’ West Yorkshire derbies.

The away trip to the Tigers on May 21 is a week before the Magic Weekend at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park, with Huddersfield’s opponents not expected to be announced until next month.

The Giants’ opening fixture is at home to Hull FC on February 8, while there’s a home clash against Salford Red Devils on Good Friday before a trip to Hull KR on Easter Monday.

A derby clash at home to Wakefield brings the curtain down on the end of the regular season before the top-flight competition splits into two play-off groups of eight – the top eight Super League finishers, and the bottom four Super League sides and top four Kingtsone Press Championship teams.

But the week before hosting the Wildcats, coach Paul Anderson’s men will be heading to the South of France to face Catalan Dragons on July 18, when temperatures could be soaring to suit the travelling supporters, but unkind to the players!

Even so, they are fixtures the Giants have no complaints about.“It’s always an exciting time of the year when the fixtures are released, and this is no exception,” said Giants managing director Richard Thewlis.

“We’re happy with the way they have worked out, and we’re delighted to open our season with a home game. That’s something clubs always want.

“We’re certainly looking to attract a decent crowd to the John Smith’s Stadium for what should be a great challenge with Hull. We’ve been involved in some great games against them over the years.

“With the new-look competition format, it’s more important than ever to get into the top eight, so we’ll be hoping to get off to a very positive start, so we hope our fans turn out in force on day one.

“The release of the fixtures usually results in an upsurge in season-ticket sales, and we obviously hope that’s again the case this year.”
