Luke Robinson believes victory at St Helens tonight would prove the Huddersfield Giants are serious Super League title contenders.

Fifth-placed Huddersfield reach the halfway stage of their 2014 campaign with the trip to Langtree Park (8.00) and a clash against former Giants chief Nathan Brown’s second-placed Saints.

A win for the visitors would take their points tally to 18 from 14 top-flight starts – just two behind the same stage last season when Paul Anderson’s men finished top for the first time in 81 years to claim the Super League Leaders’ Shield.

And Giants vice-captain Robinson feels if they make it six triumphs on the trot with a win at St Helens and continue to build their momentum, then the second half of the season could be far better than the first.

“By the halfway stage of the season you usually get a feel for who’s going to be in the mix,” said the in-form half-back.

“It’s obviously good to know that group includes us, particularly as we’ve not played anywhere near our potential yet.

“We don’t feel we’re that far away, it’s just a case of playing better for longer in games.

“Once we do that we know how difficult we’re going to be to beat and, all being well, we’ll go to Saints and prove that tonight.

“After five wins on the trot, our confidence is continuing to build and the general mood ahead of this game is one of excitement.

“The start we made to our Magic Weekend game against Bradford on Sunday wasn’t great.

“But once we got into our stride in the second half we proved difficult to stop, and we’re looking to take that into tonight’s game.”
