Huddersfield Giants have announced two home fixture changes in the opening months of the Super League XXII season.

The Giants will now host Hull FC at home on Thursday, March 2 (8pm) and Catalan Dragons on Wednesday, April 12 (8pm) at the request of John Smith’s Stadium partners Huddersfield Town and in conjunction with stadium owners KSDL.

Town host Newcastle United in March and welcome Preston on Friday April 14.

Explained Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis: “I would like to thank both the Catalan and Hull clubs for their understanding and assistance in bringing these games forward 24 hours to enable KSDL to lessen the possibility of a cancellation the following day which was HTAFC’s concern.

“They are having a wonderful season to date with a prize at the end that could transform the fortunes of everyone in our area which we again play our part in assisting and wish them every success. ”

Added KSDL Managing Director Gareth Davies said “I would very much like to put on record my personal thanks and that of the John Smith’s Stadium to the Giants for their help behind the scenes in the last few weeks regarding fixture congestion.

“The Stadium is, of course, busy at the best of times.

“However, the Giants have agreed to move two matches in advance of key Huddersfield Town matches, to help the stadium company to maintain the excellent playing surface that we have for both teams.

“I know the football club are appreciative of this support, in this very exciting and successful season for them so far.”

These were sentiments echoed by Huddersfield Town’s chief executive Julian Winter, who said: “The club would like to thank KSDL and the Huddersfield Giants for their cooperation in rearranging these two fixtures.

“Having the best playing surface possible is in the interest of all three parties and these changes should help in that goal, particularly with our two fixtures in mind. This is a great example of all parties at the John Smith’s Stadium working together for the greater good.”
