GIANTS assistant coach Paul Anderson believes Sunday’s home Super League clash against Harlequins will be a tougher test than some may think.

Huddersfield are expected to mark their return to the Galpharm Stadium by returning to winning ways

But even though the Giants are red-hot favourites to secure a victory and maintain their proud boast of having the best home record in Super League XVI – their only defeat at the Galpharm has been at the hands of league leaders Wigan – Anderson knows his side can’t take anything for granted.

The lowly Quins head north after their shock 32-22 home triumph over Leeds Rhinos in their last match 13 days ago, with Anderson refuting claims of the result being a shock, particularly with players like Luke Dorn, Luke Gale and Chad Randall around.

“It wasn’t a fluke, I’ve watched the game and what they did was start the game with a lot of energy, and that’s something we are going to have to look at,” he warned.

“What they’ve got is some players who are constantly doing the same things well.

“No disrespect to them, but they’ve endured some tough times this year, but they’ve still got Luke Dorn, who consistently plays well and gets some quality tries.

“Luke Gale is another guy who plays well for them and Chad Randall at nine is a quality dummy half, who is also very dangerous in the half-back role.”

The former Great Britain prop also doesn’t buy into the argument that Harlequins have nothing to play for, even though they can’t qualify for the end-of-season play-offs.

He just hopes that the Giants play well to end their current poor run of results and continue their rich vein of form in front of their home crowd.

“A professional team always have something to play for, and they proved that with their win in the last round,” he added. “But it’s not about what they’re playing for, it’s about what we’re playing for.

“Getting back out there and playing on our pristine pitch in front of, hopefully, a big crowd full of our great fans always helps.

“And hopefully we can come up with the goods for them and get the two points, which will help consolidate our position in the top four.”
