Huddersfield Giants will stage their inaugural ‘Life’s a Beach Week’ as they bring golden sands to Greenhead Park for the start of the school summer holidays.

In a bid to provide chances for the local community to get more active, the first ever beach will be laid in the park for six days from Tuesday, July 26 July to Saturday July 30.

The materials to create the beach have been provided by Giants’ sponsor the Myers Group, while Kirklees NHS, Greenhead Park and the Young Peoples Service at Kirklees Council have given the project their full backing.

In support of the National Campaign ‘Love Parks Week’, the whole event supports the key messages that parks and green spaces are essential to healthy, happy and strong communities.

“This is the perfect way to start the summer and it coincides with the national ‘Love Parks Week’ campaign and the ‘Return of the Giants to the Galpharm,” said Giants in the Community manager Laura Hanson.

“We play Hull KR in our first match back ‘home’ in two months since the playing surface was completely re-laid, and this is an ideal opportunity to spread our message still further.”

Plans for the park beach were officially unveiled by Giants stars Leroy Cudjoe (front, left) and Jon Molloy, with (back, from left) Andrew Skeldon (Naylor Myers), Glenn Holdsworth (Giants development officer), Big G, Steve Williams (Naylor Myers) and Chris Smith (park activities officer).
