JAMIE CORDING is hoping his super start to the season will lay the foundations for a new Huddersfield Giants’ deal.

The 23-year-old back-row forward has started all three 2013 fixtures from the bench as unbeaten Huddersfield have stormed to the top of the Super League XVIII table.

His second-half try proved crucial in Saturday’s thrilling 22-10 home triumph over Wigan.

And he’s hoping to build on that as the season progresses – and earn a new Huddersfield contract in the process.

“I know how important this year is for me, and so far it couldn’t have gone much better,” said former Castleford Tigers youngster Cording, who was singled out for praise by head coach Paul Anderson for his pre-season work.

“This is the last year of my contract, so I knew how important it was to have a big pre-season and then try and play in as many games as possible. Baloo (Anderson) has shown 100% faith in me, so I owe it to him and the rest of the team to keep on giving everything I can

“That’s the only way I’m going to put myself in a position to get a new deal, and hopefully if I keep on playing – and playing well – and the team keeps on winning, I’ll get my wish. But, right now, all I can do is keep working hard.

“The key now is obviously to build on the win against Wigan when we play at Wakefield on Sunday, and I just hope I’ve done enough to keep my place.”
