Paul Anderson has warned new Giants signing Jodie Broughton he can’t take a regular Super League start for granted.

The 2013 minor champions signed the Salford City Reds winger on a four-year deal. The 25-year-old was named the fastest man in Super League in 2011 and has scored 56 tries in 77 top-flight appearances.

But Anderson has made it clear he will have to work hard to replace current first-choice wingers Jermaine McGillvary and Aaron Murphy.

“These two both had very strong seasons and proved their value,” said Anderson.

“Jodie’s arrival means we’ve now got more competition for places, and that’s exactly what we need.

“Although we know he’ll provide us with more pace out wide, he’s still got to earn the right to get a start in our side. With players like Jerry and Aaron around that certainly can’t be taken for granted.

“It’s going to be a real scrap for places next season, and that should bring the best out of everyone. That’s why the competition for places is so important.”

As well as playing on the wing, Broughton can play centre, but Leroy Cudjoe and Joe Wardle will take some shifting, while 18-year-old full-back Jake Connor could soon challenge Scott Grix for the right to be first-choice full-back.
