Luke Robinson believes the Giants are ready to step up another gear – with teammate Brett Ferres given the all-clear to return to action in a fortnight.

Although the Giants are still struggling to fire on all cylinders, they made it nine wins out of their last 10 Super League clashes with Thursday’s 26-22 triumph at Hull KR.

The win was achieved despite the early loss of in-form England back-row forward Ferres, who was forced to leave the field with a potentially serious-looking knee injury.

But scans have revealed no major damage and he could return in two weeks to lead Huddersfield’s vital end-of-season charge.

“Brett’s a key player for us, so this is good news,” said Robinson.

“We obviously want all our main players available at the back end of the season, and Brett clearly falls into that category.

“As a group, we know we haven’t reached our peak yet. Against Hull KR the other night, for instance, we felt as if we were stuck in second gear for much of the game, and that obviously made it difficult for ourselves.

“But we know that when we really get our act together, cut out the errors and stop giving away the silly penalties we’ll start putting teams to the sword.

“There’s nothing wrong with our confidence at the moment, because we know how exciting it is to be playing well within ourselves and still picking up the wins on a regular basis.

“We’re now starting to focus even more on putting the little things right and making sure we time our run to the Grand Final to perfection.”
