Brett Ferres will be named in the Giants’ 19-man squad to face Salford Red Devils at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

But there’s still no return for hooker Shaun Lunt.

Giants chief Paul Anderson had hoped Lunt would have recovered from the calf injury which has kept him on the sidelines for the past three Super League games, while Ferres was not expected to feature for a fortnight with the quad-muscle injury he picked up during last Thursday’s 26-22 triumph at Hull KR.

Instead, it’s Ferres rather than Lunt who is in the frame to face the Red Devils as the Giants seek a 10th win from their last 11 top-flight fixtures.

“The news on Brett is clearly very positive. He’s a member of the Super League Dream Team and obviously important to what we do,” said Anderson.

“He was able to train today and will be named in our 19-man squad tomorrow.

“Obviously, if he starts to feel any discomfort we won’t risk him, but at the moment things are looking good, and that’s tremendous news when you think we initially feared he may have suffered a potentially serious knee injury.

“Unfortunately, it’s still a frustrating time for Lunty.

“Every time it looks as if he’s recovering from his calf injury he takes a backward step, which means there’s an underlying problem there somewhere.”
