In-form Joe Wardle is confident the Giants will kick-on from their thrilling 12-12 home draw against Leeds Rhinos and once again become one of Super League’s major powers.

After two stuttering top-flight displays, last season’s Super League Leaders Shield winners got back to some of their best form to share the points with their arch West Yorshire rivals.

It was the Giants’ fourth League point of the season, after their opening-night triumph at Wigan and 24-24 home draw against Hull KR.

And Wardle, who scored his side’s vital second-half try after finishing strongly from a wonderful Chris Bailey long cut-out pass, is convinced the Giants are now ready to start building for the rest of the season.

“After a couple of bad performances, Friday was just what we needed,” said Wardle, who was in the Giants side beaten 22-20 at Widnes the week before.

“We wanted to prove against Leeds that we’re still one of the best teams in the competition, and I think we’ve done that. I think we showed we’ll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“But now we have to back it up with an even better effort at Bradford Bulls on Sunday.

“If we are going to achieve our goals this year and win even more silverware, we need to keep on building week after week.

“So it’s no good being better against Leeds and then falling back at Bradford this weekend. That’s something no-one here wants, and that will be our motivation next weekend.”
