Huddersfield Giants chief Paul Anderson is backing Steve McNamara to continue as England national coach.

Despite having just led England to a 2-1 Test series triumph over New Zealand, former Huddersfield skipper McNamara’s position is believed to be under review by Rugby Football League bosses.

But Anderson believes the powers-that-be should keep him in the role and allow him to build on the England foundations he’s been building.

“I think Steve’s doing a good job,” said Anderson.

“And if you’re doing a good job, then you deserve to keep on doing it.

“He’s creating a very good environment with England and one where it doesn’t seem to matter where players play, they just appear to fit into the structure really well.

“We could obviously have this debate about who should be playing for England and who shouldn’t. After all, the game’s all about England.

“But rather than look to criticise Steve and the choices he’s made – which on this occasion have proved successful for England – we should be rejoicing in the fact that our national team has been successful on the international stag.

“That’s obviously the ultimate goal.”
