Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson is confident he has the players capable of overcoming the expected loss of in-form centre Jake Connor.

Huddersfield’s current Player of the Month suffered a suspected broken ankle during his side’s 26-19 Super League XXI defeat at leaders Wigan Warriors.

The 21-year-old will undergo scans to assess the full extent of the damage.

But Anderson, who is also having to give checks on a shoulder injury suffered by prop Craig Huby, expects Connor to be sidelined for some time.

“The injuries we picked up can happen if your defence is put under so much pressure,” said Anderson, who was full of praise for the way the loyal travelling fans got behind their team on the night.

“But even though our squad is light we feel we have the players capable of covering the potential losses.

“In the case of Jake, we’ve got Gene Ormsby available to play at home to Leeds next Friday, and we’ve also got talented young players like Jared Simpson, Darnell McIntosh and Sam Wood desperate to play.

“So we do have options.”
