PAUL ANDERSON is demanding a vast defensive improvement from the Huddersfield Giants.

The Huddersfield head coach watched his second-placed side secure a 50-30 home triumph over Hull KR to remain a point behind leaders Wigan Warriors.

It was the Giants’ ninth victory from their opening 12 top-flight fixtures.

But after conceding 30 points to Rovers and 24 in last week’s win at Castleford, Anderson has warned his players they can’t afford to keep having these defensive lapses. If they do, he fears they could lose their momentum.

“We’ve now shipped nearly 60 points in the last two matches, and that’s simply not acceptable,” said Anderson, who felt prop Eorl Crabtree was outstanding on a return from a one-game ban.

“To get where we want to be, this has to stop, and stop quickly.

“If we don’t fix this up, we could make things very tough for ourselves.

“Against Hull KR, we went 20-0 up and then got carried away and let them back in it.

“We’ve got to learn to put teams to bed.

“To concede 30 points at home is not good enough.

“We’ve again shown we can score tries, which is pleasing.

“But good teams can back that up with solid defence, and that’s something we’re not doing.”
