PAUL ANDERSON has made it clear there will be no major celebrations if the Giants beat Wigan in tomorrow’s big Super League XVIII clash at the John Smith’s Stadium (3.00).

Huddersfield head into the encounter against last season’s minor Super League champions top of the table with two wins out of two.

After securing the stunning 40-4 opening-night win at St Helens, the Giants backed it up with a 34-6 home triumph over London Broncos five days ago.

The results have made the rest of Super League sit up and take note, with Huddersfield having scored 13 tries and conceded just two in the process.

Anderson’s men face the biggest test of their potential title credentials when they hosts a Warriors side who could count themselves unlucky to have been held 17-17 at home to Warrington Wolves last Friday.

But even if the Giants do make it three wins out of three to strengthen their position at the top of the table, Anderson has made it clear the mood within the Huddersfield camp will show little change.

“A win is a win, it’s as simple as that,” said Anderson.

“Obviously, it’s good to start with two wins out of two, and hopefully after Saturday it’ll be three wins out of three.

“But whatever the outcome of the game, our attitude and approach will remain exactly the same.

“I suppose some may think the more wins we pick up, the more the pressure will grow.

“But we don’t see it like that, internally.

“The pressure we face comes from within, because we’re striving to be the best we can every day and not sit back and say: ‘We’re top of the League. Well done, fellas!’

“We’ve set our own internal standards, which is where our pressure comes from, and we don’t intend to let those standards drop. That could be the case if we let ourselves get carried away and spend too long congratulating each other when we get a win on the board.

“We didn’t get carried away when we won at Saints, and we won’t get carried away if we beat Wigan this weekend.

“Our focus going into this game is to be emotionally and physically ready to play and, if we’re not, then we know Wigan will embarrass us.

“This is another big test for us, and the improvement we’re going to have to make from last week against London is massive.

“A number of areas of our performance against London disappointed me, and I don’t want to see that happen again.”

Wigan showed their qualities last week when a late Lee Briers’ drop goal denied them a one-point win at home to Warrington.

Anderson was impressed with a lot of what he saw from the men in cherry and white during an intense 80 minutes, with back-row Liam Farrell in particular catching his eye.

“I think Wigan will have been disappointed not to have won the game,” added Anderson.

“And their quality once again shone through.

“Players like Sean O’Loughlin, Michael McIllorum and Lee Mossop are always going to be a threat, while everyone knows what Sam Tomkins can do.

“Also there’s hype about their new half-backs (Matty Smith and Blake Green), and they look like they’re going to be a dangerous pairing.

“But the player I really like and admire is Liam Farrell, who I was fortunate enough to coach at the England Knights the other year.

“He’s a very solid player with a decent rugby brain, which is a credit to Wigan, and his ability was there for all to see against Warrington.

“Everyone knows Benny Westwood is no mug, but Liam was on top of him all game and kept him quiet. Not many players can do that.

“He epitomises the excellent Wigan work ethic.”

Anderson is guaranteed to be making at least one change to his weekend line-up, with winger Luke George having not been named in the 19-man squad.

His place looks set to be taken by Aaron Murphy, with Jacob Fairbank and Antony Mullally also hoping to get their first calls of 2013.
