HUDDERSFIELD Giants coach Paul Anderson has admitted his chase for a new half-back is proving tough.

But he still hasn’t given up hope of bringing in some fresh faces for Super League XVIII.

The Huddersfield head coach (left) has made no secret of his desire to recruit at half-back and he’s made it clear he’ll be doing everything within his power to make sure his search ends in success.

He has been highly successful in his bid to ‘beef up’ the front row with the signing of former Great Britain prop Stuart Fielden from Wigan Warriors.

And now he is re-doubling his efforts to capture an extra playmaker.

“Recruitment on this front is going slow, there’s no hiding away from that,” admitted Anderson, who is also bringing in Brett Ferres from Castleford, Ukuma Ta'ai (New Zealand Warriors), Anthony Mullally (Widnes) and Ben Blackmore (Castleford).

“The major problem in our game is that the player pool is small so everyone is scrambling around and fighting for the same players.

“We are having a lot of meetings and trying to convince players to come to our club but it is a slow process. As well as talking, we’re also aware we may have to do a fair bit of wheeling and dealing in order to reach another successful conclusion.

“But we certainly haven’t given up all hope at this stage. We’re continuing to work as hard as ever to bring in the right sort of player who we believe will help make us even stronger next season.”

Those players from the 2012 squad who have now departed are Kevin Brown, David Fa’alogo, Lee Gilmour, Tommy Lee, Dave Orwell, Ross Peltier, Tony Tonks and Adam Walker, while there’s still no decision on the future of Shaun Lunt, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Leeds Rhinos.
