Upbeat Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson can’t wait to have the full squad at his disposal for the first time on Friday.

And the Huddersfield chief knows that means the quality of the pre-season work will increase dramatically when they head for a week of warm-weather training in Portugal the following day.

England World Cup duo Leroy Cudjoe and Brett Ferres, along with club captain and Super League Man of Steel Danny Brough, are the last members of the senior Giants’ squad to report back for work as Huddersfield bid to defend their Super League Leaders’ Shield.

The only exception in the 29-man squad not to train fully is likely to be back-row forward Jacob Fairbank, who has had major shoulder surgery.

Anderson is confident even Fairbank – nicknamed Bobby – will be able to take part in a fair chunk of the work that will be undertaken, however.

“One or two may have to miss some of the contact sessions, but we don’t think there should be any real problems at all while we’re out there,” said Anderson.

“It’s going to be great having all 29 players back with us on Friday, and that means we’re really looking forward to putting in some quality team-structured stuff as soon as we get to Portugal.

“Because we’ve had so many players involved in the World Cup (nine) and a number of others in rehab following surgery, it’s meant a lot of the work we’ve done up to now has been individually based. It’s been working on catching, passing and improving defensive technique. That’s just about to change, and I think the boys are looking forward to ripping in. It’s possible everyone could play a full part, even Bobby Fairbank. He’s started to take part in some of the skills sessions already.”
