Bitterly disappointed Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson has admitted his players are struggling to live up to the high expectations that have now been set.

Huddersfield followed up last weekend’s 24-24 home draw against Hull KR with last night’s demoralising 22-20 defeat at Widnes Vikings.

And Anderson knows that winning the Super League Leaders’ Shield in 2013 is making their task even harder at the start of 2014.

“The level of expectation around Huddersfield is now very high and we’re not living up to it,” conceded Anderson.

“We have to appreciate that when we come and play teams, we’ve got to aim up, because our opponents are ready to play a good team, which we are.

At the moment we’re not handling that and we need to so something about it.

“At least we’re just three rounds into the season and time is on our side.

“Some of our discipline in regard to the structures we have in place just simply isn’t good enough.

“Widnes out-thought us all last night and they got what they derived from the game.”
